RESOLUTION
Commending
the Lakeview Ft. Oglethorpe High School Academic Decathlon Team; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Lakeview Ft. Oglethorpe High School Academic Decathlon Team from Catoosa
County has secured the 2009 PAGE Georgia Academic Decathlon state title;
and
WHEREAS,
the team competed against 19 other teams from across this state to earn their
title on February 28, 2009, and will represent Georgia in the national
competition in Memphis, Tennessee, in April; and
WHEREAS,
the focus for the 2009 Georgia Academic Decathlon was Latin America and
evolutionary biology, and in order to prepare for the competition, participants
were required to study the art, music, and economics of Mexico as well as
Darwin's voyages in Latin America and his development of evolutionary theory;
and
WHEREAS,
ably led by Coaches Ian and Lisa Beck, team members Mary Beth Richardson, Destin
Sisemore, Steven Harris, Casey Crook, Caitlin Russell, Joey Bowen, Donal Hollis,
Cody Dunn, Eola Park, and Daniel Goins emerged victorious thanks to their
dedication and immense knowledge; and
WHEREAS,
in capturing this prestigious state title, these smart and gifted students have
brought great honor to their school and community.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
congratulating the Lakeview Ft. Oglethorpe High School Academic Decathlon Team
on winning the 2009 PAGE Georgia Academic Decathlon State Finals.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the team members and
coaches of the Lakeview Ft. Oglethorpe High School Academic Decathlon Team.
