RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Spring Chicken Festival and Chicken City Cook Off and
designating the Hall County event as the official chicken cookoff for the State
of Georgia; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the City of Gainesville in Hall County, Georgia, is acknowledged as the location
where the modern poultry industry was founded and is known as the Chicken
Capital of the World; and
WHEREAS,
the Spring Chicken Festival and Chicken City Cook Off produced by Keep Hall
Beautiful, Main Street Gainesville, and the Lake Lanier Convention &
Visitors Bureau is a staple of the spring festival season in Georgia and
benefits the citizens of Gainesville and Hall County, Georgia, via funding of
the Keep Hall Beautiful Tree Replacement Fund; and
WHEREAS,
the Chicken City Cook Off brings together the poultry industry, local
restauranteurs, and amateur chefs in a culinary contest to perfect the art of
cooking chicken; and
WHEREAS,
the Spring Chicken Festival creates a fun family atmosphere, attracting visitors
to the area and increasing tourism and spending revenue for Gainesville and Hall
County; and
WHEREAS,
the Spring Chicken Festival has been recognized as a major spring event by
Y'all - The Magazine
of Southern People, host of the Amtrak
Sweet Tea Challenge at the event; and
WHEREAS,
the 2009 Spring Chicken Festival will be featured by Georgia Public Broadcasting
as part of their
Georgia Traveler
series; and
WHEREAS,
in keeping with the fine tradition of the Georgia Poultry Federation, the Spring
Chicken Festival and Chicken City Cook Off strive to educate and entertain the
public while elevating Gainesville and Hall County's status as the Poultry
Capital of the World.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the dedicated efforts of the Spring Chicken Festival and Chicken City Cook Off
organizers and recognize the event as the official chicken cookoff for the State
of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the organizers of the
Spring Chicken Festival and Chicken City Cook Off.
