RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Robert L. Sutton, Jr.; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Robert L. Sutton, Jr., has long been recognized by the citizens of this
state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal
commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,
talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as
evidenced dramatically by his years of superlative service working to protect
and preserve the water quality of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
during the 1960's, Mr. Sutton oversaw the expansion of the Cobb County Water and
Sewer System, which achieved unprecedented growth during a period when Cobb
County was one of the third fastest growing counties in this state;
and
WHEREAS,
in 1973, he was vital in establishing the Chattahoochee River Wastewater
Treatment Plant, designed to purify solid waste and perform secondary treatment
on waste water before the water was returned to the Chattahoochee River;
and
WHEREAS,
with a current daily sewage capacity of 60 million gallons, the Chattahoochee
River Plant was renamed the Robert L. Sutton, Jr. Water Reclamation Facility in
recognition of Mr. Sutton's instrumental role in the plant and his passionate
interest in the reclamation and purification of Georgia's water;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Sutton is one of the original nine appointees to the Lake Allatoona
Preservation Authority, and, during his ten years with the authority, he has
served on the Environmental Committee, the Tri-State Water Oversight Committee,
the North Metropolitan Georgia Water Planning District, and as chairman of the
authority for four years; and
WHEREAS, the Lake Allatoona Preservation Authority formally acknowledged Mr. Sutton's outstanding contributions toward restoring, protecting, and preserving the water quality of Lake Allatoona in February, 2009; and
WHEREAS, the Lake Allatoona Preservation Authority formally acknowledged Mr. Sutton's outstanding contributions toward restoring, protecting, and preserving the water quality of Lake Allatoona in February, 2009; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Mr. Robert L. Sutton, Jr., for his decades of efficient, effective, unselfish,
and dedicated public service to Cobb County and Georgia and extend to him their
most sincere gratitude for his work keeping the water of Georgia clean, safe,
and plentiful.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Robert L. Sutton, Jr.
