A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Charles W. Bishop; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, a life-long resident of Bibb County, Mr. Charles W. Bishop received his education in the Bibb County Public School System, graduated with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Brenau College in 1983, and is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bishop served in law enforcement for 35 years, working his way up in the Macon Police Department from patrolman to deputy chief of police, retiring in 2000; and

WHEREAS, after retiring from law enforcement, Mr. Bishop continued his dedicated service to the public by serving as District Four Commissioner for Bibb County and as Chairman of the Bibb County Board of Commissioners; and

WHEREAS, during his time as Commissioner, Mr. Bishop focused on growing Bibb County through economic development by working to bring new industry and expanding existing industry in the area; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bishop continually gives back to his community through his work on several local boards, including the Macon State College Foundation Board of Trustees, the Macon Economic Development Commission, the Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority, the Macon-Bibb County Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Middle Georgia Clean Air Coalition, the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Middle Georgia Regional Development Center, the Macon Area Transportation Study, the NewTown Macon Board of Directors, and the Community Health Works Board; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bishop is united in love and marriage to Carolyn Brickle Bishop, and the couple has been blessed with four children and one grandchild; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting that this body express its appreciation to Mr. Bishop for the great credit he reflects on his community and the state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that members of this body commend Mr. Charles W. Bishop for his outstanding service and his many important contributions to Bibb County and the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Charles W. Bishop.
