Senate Resolution 749

A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Floyd E. Morris; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Floyd E. Morris has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Savannah-Chatham County; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Morris graduated from Columbia County High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, and track and served as valedictorian of his graduating class; and

WHEREAS, he attended Arkansas Agricultural, Mechanical & Normal College on a football scholarship, where he earned a bachelor's degree, and he earned a master's degree from Indiana University and a certificate in administration and supervision from Georgia Southern College; and

WHEREAS, he began his distinguished career in education and coaching in 1959 at Johnson High School and was instrumental in the academic and athletic success of Richard Arnold High School as its football coach, athletic director, and principal; and

WHEREAS, devoted to serving his community, Mr. Morris has served as assistant superintendent of Support Services for the Savannah-Chatham County Board of Public Education, as a member of the Georgia State Advisory Board for Adult Basic and Secondary Education, and currently serves as director of the Summer Lunch Program for the Leisure Services Bureau of Savannah, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. Morris is an active member of Second Baptist Church where he has dedicated his time as chairman of its Board of Deacons since 1962; and

WHEREAS, his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of this state have earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Mr. Floyd E. Morris for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to Savannah-Chatham and the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Floyd E. Morris.
