A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the Stratford Academy boys tennis team on winning their second consecutive Class AAA State Championship; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, for the second time in two years, the Stratford Academy boys tennis team earned the top ranking in the state with their 3-0 semi-final victory over Southland and their 4-1 victory over Augusta Prep; and

WHEREAS, the Eagles consistently soared over their opponents, compiling a 13-0 regular season record as a team and a record of 62-3 in individual matches; and

WHEREAS, the title earning team consisted of talented athletes Rohin Aggarwal, Aliy Ahmed, Ryan Baker, Hayden Bashinski, Max Chandler, Blake Christianson, McLendon Eberhardt, Stewart Eberhardt, Obi Ekeledo, Stuart Firth, Spencer Furlong, Benton Graves, Nobel Harris, Bailey Hicks, Sims Holmes, Casey Jones, Stuart Kent, Skip Lazenby, Lee Lineberger, John Lyons, Matthew Maier, Becker O'Shaughnessey, Matt Schwartz, Miles Seagler, Spencer Simmons, and Thomas Watson; and

WHEREAS, Becker O'Shaughnessey earned the title of regional champion, state champion, and had an undefeated season; and

WHEREAS, Hayden Bashinski and Thomas Watson lost only one game throughout the season, won the state title, and finished as runner-ups in the region, while Casey Jones and Sims Holmes had one-loss seasons, won the regional title, and were runner-ups at the state tournament; and

WHEREAS, Ryan Baker, Hayden Bashinski, Casey Jones, Becker O'Shaughnessey, Spencer Simmons, and Thomas Watson were named to the All Region team; and

WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the team; their superb offensive and defensive talents; and the astute direction of Head Coach Jaime Kaplan and Assistant Coach Randy Stephens; and

WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition, it is abundantly proper to call them champions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body congratulate the Stratford Academy boys tennis team for winning the Class AAA State Championship and extend their sincere best wishes for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit copies of this resolution to Head Coach Jaime Kaplan.
