RESOLUTION
Commending
the School of Nursing at the University of West Georgia and recognizing January
28, 2010, as the University of West Georgia Day at the state capitol; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the University of West Georgia offers students 116 programs of study, which
include 12 at the certificate level, 59 at the bachelor's level, 42 at the
master's and specialist levels, and three at the doctoral level;
and
WHEREAS,
in 2008, the University of West Georgia graduated more registered nurses with a
bachelor's degree than any other school in Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
of the 2008 graduates who earned bachelor's degrees in nursing, 99 percent
passed the registered nurses licensing exam on the first attempt, which earned
the University of West Georgia Bachelor of Science in Nursing program the
highest passage rate in this state; and
WHEREAS,
the University of West Georgia is the leading institute of higher education that
graduates master's degree level nurse educators who are needed to teach the next
generation of nurses; and
WHEREAS,
the University of West Georgia's School of Nursing offers only one of two
programs in Georgia that prepare clinical nurse leaders; and
WHEREAS,
with an internationally recognized curriculum, the University of West Georgia's
nursing program had over 900 nursing and pre-nursing students enrolled for the
fall 2009 semester; and
WHEREAS,
the academic reputation and excellence of the University of West Georgia and its
School of Nursing are worthy of
recognition.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the dedicated efforts of the School of Nursing at the University of West Georgia to producing professional and highly skilled nurses and recognize January 28, 2010, as the University of West Georgia Day at the state capitol.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the University of West
Georgia's School of Nursing.
