Representative David Casas entered politics on a mission to make a difference for Georgia’s families. Now serving his third term as a member of the General Assembly, he is making way to do just that. Casas serves as the Vice Chairman of the Economic Development and Tourism Committee, for which he is a veteran member and also serves as Chairman of the subcommittee on Trade. He extended his services to the Education Committee for a third term and serves as Chairman of the subcommittee on Academic Achievement. Casas is also extending his service on the Rules Committee for a second term. In addition, he was also appointed as one of House Speaker Richardson’s Hawks, giving him voting and membership privileges on all committees and sub-committees.

Born in Spain to Cuban parents, Casas later moved to the United States and earned a B.A. in History from Georgia State University in 1996. Since that time, he has used his life experiences to help others. Employed by the Cobb County School System, Casas enjoys teaching high school American government and economics, and has served as a teacher-trainer for the Southern Center for International Studies.

Representative Casas is a founding member and chairman of the National Conference of Hispanic Legislators, Legislative Liaison for the Governor’s Hispanic Commission, a member of the Republican National Committee’s Hispanic Advisory Board, an active member of the American Legislative Exchange Council and a Georgia Member of the Southern Regional Education Board’s Legislative Advisory Council.

In 2002, the educator was awarded the STAR Teacher Award for Cobb County. He is a member of PAGE as well as the Lilburn Business Association. He is also a recipient of the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce First Hispanic Legislator Award and the Fort Gordon Signals Corp Hispanic Heritage Month Recognition Award.

He and his wife Ann are the proud parents of Ellie and Jonathan. They attend Mount Paran Church of God in Atlanta.
