Dorothea (Dee) Dawkins-Haigler
Dedicated, Effective, and Efficient are words often used to describe State Representative Dorothea "DEE" Dawkins-Haigler. Dee represents House District 93 which covers parts of DeKalb and Rockdale counties and the cities of Lithonia, Conyers and parts of Decatur. She dedicates her life to public service through her role as a minister, college educator, community activist and political strategist.
DEE is an ordained minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Church where she has served as a pastor, teacher, evangelist, and mentor. She has a unique ministry which is able to bridge all age groups which has afforded her the opportunity to be the recipient of many awards regarding service to youth and women organizations.
DEE is an advocate for youth and is concerned about the plight of American youth. She previously served on the Juvenile Parole Board for the state of South Carolina after being appointed by Governor Jim Hodges. She was elected to numerous positions on the board – secretary, vice chair, and then Chair where she was the youngest and first African American female to hold this position.
DEE is a graduate of South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, S.C., where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. She also earned a Masters in Public Administration/Personnel Management from Kentucky State University. She is a graduate of Turner Theological Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Seminary where she earned a Master of Divinity degree in theology and ethics. She holds a Doctorate in Ministry and is completing a Ph.D at Clark Atlanta University where she is currently ABD.
DEE is the President and owner of DDH & Associates and the Executive Director of TIME 1000- an organization dedicated to helping 1000 women and minorities get elected to public office. She is also a motivational speaker and Life Coach.
DEE is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Jack and Jill of America, The National Council of Negro Women, Inc., The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Order of Eastern Star and the NAACP.
This vibrant and visionary leader currently resides in Lithonia, Georgia with her husband and college sweetheart US Army Major David H. Haigler, Jr. and they are the proud parents of four children, Christopher, Christyn, Hannah, and Joshua.
