Representative Gene Maddox has been honored to serve the constituents of District 172 through his service in the Georgia Legislature on the following committees: Health and Human Services, Economic Development and Tourism, Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, Retirement, and Human Relations and Aging. He serves as Secretary of the Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee. He is a retired Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He graduated from Jackson High School, attended Abraham Baldwin College for two years before transferring to the University of Georgia. He graduated from UGA School of Veterinary Medicine in 1959. He was named Veterinarian of the year in 2006 and was named "Distinguished Alumni" in 2009. In 2005 he received the Community Service Award from the Grady County Chamber of Commerce. He was honored in 2010 as the "Legislator of the Year" by the Georgia Firefighters Association.

Due to Dr. Maddox's profession he is a member of the professional organizations AVMA, GVMA, SGVMA. He also belongs to and supports the Georgia Cattlemen's Association and serves on the Grady County Economic Development Authority. Grady County Future Farmer's of America club honored him with an honorary membership.

He and his wife Patsy have been blessed with four sons, Stanley, Steven, Todd and Patrick along with ten grandchildren. Representative Maddox enjoys hunting, fishing and traveling as time permits.
