Representative Quincy Murphy

William "Quincy" Murphy was born in Atlanta, Georgia and reared in Edgefield County, South Carolina. He is a graduate of North Carolina A& T State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics. He is President and Chief Executive Officer of Quincy Murphy & Associates, an affiliate of the Allstate Insurance Company, and has been in the insurance and financial services business in Augusta since 1979.

Representative Murphy has a history of community and civic service and currently serves as a Board Chairman of Augusta/Richmond County Communities in Schools. He is a member of the Augusta and National Associations of Life Underwriters, the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials, the National conference of State Legislatures, Alpha Mu Boulé-Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Omega Psi Phi National Fraternity, Inc., State Treasurer of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, the Rotary Club of Augusta, Georgia, and the Chairman of the Augusta/Richmond County Legislative Delegation.

He is a former Executive Secretary and Training Officer of the Augusta Association of Basketball Officials, former member of Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Basketball and Football Officials Association, and Optimist Club of Richmond County. He is a former Board Member of the Augusta/Richmond County Coliseum Authority, Care Management Consultants, CSRA Business League, Inc., CSRA Economic Opportunity Authority, Inc., and the United Way of Central Savannah River Area.

His awards include three years recognition as an Allstate Financial Leader and Quality Agent and nineteen years as a recipient of the honors Ring. He was named 2005 man of the Year by Mt. Canaan Baptist Church in Edgefield County, South Carolina, where he was reared, and 2005 Man of the Year by Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Augusta Alumni Chapter, Presidential Award for Outstanding Service to Community and State by 100 Black Men of Augusta, Inc., Community Citizen’s Award for Outstanding Service to the CSRA by National Association of Univeristy Women, 4th Annual Bro.Com Lee Norris Board, Humanitarian Award by Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Chi Lambda Chapter.

On his first offer for public office in 2002, Representative Murphy was elected to the Georgia General Assembly as the State Representative from House District 97. In 2004 he was unopposed for re-election to the reapportioned new House District 120. In the House of Representatives, he serves on the powerful Higher Education, Insurance, and Transportation Committees.

Representative Murphy is a member of Augusta’s historic Tabernacle Baptist Church where he is a Deacon, Trustee Ministry Chairman, and former Church Treasurer. He is married to the former Linda Dianne Dunton and they have two adult children, Jennifer Alisha and Williams Quincy, III.
