Republican Donna Sheldon has been a small business owner for 10 years and is proud to serve the people of the 105th district in the Georgia House of Representatives. The district encompasses Dacula and North East Gwinnett.
As a true Dacula native, Sheldon has spent her life serving the community in numerous capacities. In the mid 1990s, Sheldon was a founder and director of the Master’s Academy of Fine Arts in Dacula, now known as the Dacula Classical Academy. She also served the Academy in the capacities of PTA officer and legislative liaison.
In the Georgia House of Representatives, Sheldon’s commitment to her constituents and the state has been recognized through her election to caucus leadership and her committee assignments. In 2009, her Republican colleagues elected her as Chair of the House Majority Caucus. She also serves as Vice Chairman of the House Transportation Committee. Sheldon is a member of the Appropriations subcommittee on Health, as well as the Banks and Banking, Economic Development and Tourism, and Ethics committees.
During the 2010 legislative session, Sheldon was instrumental in the passage of a strategic plan for Georgia’s statewide transportation system. As a leader of the House Transportation Committee, she helped craft legislation creating 12 Special Tax Districts for Transportation along the Georgia Regional Commissions’ existing boundaries. This plan, which was signed into law by Governor Perdue on June 2, 2010, gives voters the opportunity to vote on the transportation needs of their area. According to House Speaker David Ralston, and echoed by Sheldon, this new transportation plan will alleviate gridlock on Georgia’s roads and show the rest of the country and the world that Georgia remains serious about competing for jobs and improving the quality of life for its citizens.
Sheldon was appointed by Speaker Ralston to the Transportation Governance Study Commission in 2010. Just one year prior, Governor Perdue sought Sheldon’s leadership by appointing her to his Water Contingency Task Force. The recommendations of this task force led to the passage of the Georgia Water Stewardship Act of 2010.
Sheldon graduated from Gainesville College in 1984 with an Associate’s degree in Science. She has been married to her husband Bob for 30 years. They have two daughters, Christina and Heather, and two grandchildren.
