Representative Rashad Taylor

HD 55 (D - Atlanta)

Rashad Taylor is currently the youngest serving member of the Georgia General Assembly. He was elected in July 2008 and won his election against two opponents with 63% of the vote. Rep. Taylor currently serves on the Education, MARTA Oversight (MARTOC), and Ways and Means Committees. He is Chairman of the MARTOC Subcommittee on Infrastructure and Maintenance and serves as Deputy Whip for the House Democratic Caucus.

Rep. Taylor has had a successful career as a political consultant. In May 2007, Rep. Taylor was named as one of ten “Rising Stars” in national politics by Campaigns and Elections Magazine, and in June 2007, he became Political Director of the Democratic Party of Georgia, where he served until January 2009.

He has worked for former U.S. Senator Max Cleland, Congressman John Lewis, and State Senator Vincent Fort. He co-founded a political consulting company in Atlanta where he devised campaign strategy for several local candidates, including many congressional, judicial, state legislative, sheriff, and city council races.

In addition to his political work, Rashad is also an active member of his community. He is a founding member and served on the Executive Committee for Atlanta Jobs with Justice. He served three years on the Board of Directors for NARAL Pro-Choice Georgia and two years on the board of the Youth Task Force, the oldest civil and human rights organization founded by young people of color.

Rashad is originally from Washington, DC and attended Morehouse College. He lives in the Washington Park community in Atlanta and is an active member of Destiny World Church in Austell, Georgia.
