Rob Teilhet (pronounced tuh-lay), State Representative for District 40, has represented parts of Smyrna and Marietta in the General Assembly since his election in 2002 at the age of 28. He has been named one of Georgia’s Most Influential People by James Magazine and a "Star to Watch" by the National Journal’s Hotline. In 2007 he joined the leadership of the House Democrats by being elected Chief Deputy Whip. Representative Teilhet serves on the Education, Judiciary, and Industrial Relations Committees in the Georgia House of Representatives. Teilhet lives in Smyrna with his wife, Heather, and their two daughters and is a partner in the law firm of Rogers, Strimban & Teilhet in Marietta. He received both his undergraduate and law degree from the University of Georgia and currently serves on the board of the Georgia Network to End Sexual Assault. He has been named by the State Bar of Georgia to serve on its Lawyer Advertising Task Force, and also serves on the advisory committee of the Cobb Literacy Council. In September of 2007, he joined the Executive Committee of the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education, a non-profit group of business and community leaders committed to increasing student achievement in Georgia Schools.

As a member of the General Assembly, Representative Teilhet works to strengthen the economy, improve public education, increase access to health care, and make communities safer. Representative Teilhet fought for and passed legislation giving important legal protections to crime victims, seniors and children, and preventing identity theft. He has also sought to keep vital dollars invested in improving public transportation and reducing traffic congestion. Representative Teilhet sponsored and passed an increase in the homestead exemption for disabled residents of the City of Smyrna. He is a committed champion for Georgia families, and has received awards for his legislative work from, among others, the Cobb County Associations of Educators, Georgia Family Council, Georgia Psychological Association, and the Georgia Water Coalition. Known for his advocacy on behalf of consumers, he was named "Democrat of the Year" in 2007 by the Cobb County Democratic Committee in honor of his work to protect Georgians from identity theft and predatory lending. Representative Teilhet’s record of public service spans more than a decade. In 1993, while a student at the University of Georgia, Representative Teilhet helped to establish and operate a pre-school program for disadvantaged Georgia youth. Teilhet served as part of Leadership UGA, a Richard B. Russell Fellowship program promoting life-long leadership and community service. In addition, Teilhet was a member of the Arch Society, which awarded him the distinguished Fred Brown Award on the basis of his leadership skills, campus involvement, and commitment to the University. Teilhet served as an administrative aide to the Georgia State Senate in 1997. As a student at the University of Georgia School of Law, Teilhet served as President of the Class of 2000 and worked with the Consumer Law Center of the South as an advocate fighting consumer fraud.
