RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Chance Veazey and inviting him to be recognized by the House of
Representatives; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
a Superior Honor Graduate of Tift County High School, Chance Veazey was a
four-year starting infielder for his high school team and was awarded Best
Offensive Player and Most Valuable Player for both his junior and senior year;
and
WHEREAS,
at the completion of his senior season, Chance had accumulated a .444 batting
average, a .728 slugging percentage, and a .573 on base percentage, and had
earned All Region honors all four years and was a four-time All Tift Area
recipient; and
WHEREAS,
Chance was a member of 2008 Team Georgia as one of the top 20 Georgia high
school juniors selected to represent this state during the Sunbelt Classic in
Oklahoma, where he had the highest batting average and was selected to the All
Tournament Team; and
WHEREAS,
on October 26, 2009, as a starting freshman second baseman for the University of
Georgia, Chance dominated at the plate, going three for four at Foley Field and
hitting a home run in his last at bat; and
WHEREAS,
on October 28, 2009, Chance was involved in an accident which left him paralyzed
from the waist down; and
WHEREAS,
throughout Chance's recovery, Head Coach David Perno and Baseball Athletic
Trainer Mike Dillon have been by his side with visits to the hospital and have
provided unyielding support for Chance and his family; and
WHEREAS,
a strong bond has developed between Chance and Coach Perno, an unsung hero who
has demonstrated compassion and kindness, and the University of Georgia has
generously extended Chance's scholarship from four years to six;
and
WHEREAS, Chance will return to Foley Field this season to assist on the Bulldogs' road to victory, serving as a radio announcer during games and providing his teammates with inspiration and determination to overcome any obstacle; and

WHEREAS,
over the last few months, Chance has demonstrated great courage and faith in the
face of adversity, and the strength of will and spirit he has shown serves as an
example to others and is worthy of recognition.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize Chance Veazey for the example of perseverance and fortitude
he has set for teammates, classmates, friends, and family and invite him to be
recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time to be determined
by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Chance
Veazey.
