BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend Part 3 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of
Georgia Annotated, relating to educational programs under the "Quality Basic
Education Act," so as to provide for a bilingual certification on high school
diplomas; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for
other purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Part
3 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia
Annotated, relating to educational programs under the "Quality Basic Education
Act," is amended by adding a new Code section to read as follows:
"20-2-151.3.
(a)
The State Board of Education shall establish requirements for the issuance of a
bilingual certification on a high school diploma for graduating seniors who meet
specified requirements. Such requirements shall include a passing grade on an
approved test to demonstrate bilingual skills.
(b)
Local boards of education shall indicate that a student has received bilingual
certification on the diploma of any such student who has met the requirements
established by the State Board of Education pursuant to subsection (a) of this
Code section."
SECTION
2.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
