A RESOLUTION


Congratulating the Greater Atlanta Christian School boys' basketball team for winning the 2010 Class AA State Championship and inviting them to be recognized by the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Greater Atlanta Christian School boys' basketball team demonstrated a feat of greatness with a 77-65 victory over Thomasville in the Macon Centreplex to clinch the 2010 Class AA State Championship, proving that the Spartans are a force to be reckoned with; and

WHEREAS, this incredible team finished the season with a record of 32-1 and earned Greater Atlanta Christian its first state championship in boys' basketball since 1977; and

WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the team and their superb offensive and defensive talents; and

WHEREAS, the Spartans were challenged to succeed and led by the astute direction of Head Coach Eddie Martin and Assistant Coaches Joe Marelle and Brent Martin; and

WHEREAS, this all-star team included 13 stellar athletes dedicated to bringing a state title home to Greater Atlanta Christian: Trent Boyd, Malcolm Brogdon, A.J. Davis, Paul Dawson, Dylan Harper, Beaux Hebert, Julian Horton, Morgan Ingram, Andrew Lewis, Elliott Long, Kyle Scales, Collin Swinton, and Trent Wiedeman; and

WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition, it is abundantly proper to call them champions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate the Greater Atlanta Christian School boys' basketball team for winning the 2010 Class AA State Championship and invite them to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time to be determined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Head Coach Eddie Martin.
