RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending CSX Transportation, Inc.; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
CSX Transportation (CSXT) is part of the CSX Corporation, one of the nation's
leading transportation companies, providing rail, intermodal, and rail-to-truck
transload services, with service throughout 23 eastern states and the District
of Columbia; and
WHEREAS,
CSXT has entered into a public-private partnership with the State of Georgia
that provides greater protection to the citizens of this state; and
WHEREAS,
called SecureNOW, the collaboration provides the Georgia Emergency Management
Agency Office of Homeland Security officials with access to CSXT's Network
Operation Workstation (NOW); and
WHEREAS,
NOW is an on-line system, developed and used by CSXT, that allows state and
local public safety and law enforcement officials to independently track the
location of CSXT trains and the contents of rail cars being hauled by CSXT in
Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
this real-time monitoring application is a model being emulated by others states
on the CSXT rail system that ensures the security of this nation's freight rail
system; and
WHEREAS,
in addition to their NOW system, CSXT works with state and local law enforcement
officials in Georgia on joint rail security training and preparedness exercises
and provides 24 hour access to CSX rail security professionals; and
WHEREAS,
the partnership and collaboration fostered by CSXT ensures the safety and
security of each Georgian and the company's diligence in protecting Americans is
worthy of recognition.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
CSX Transportation for its commitment to safe and secure railways and recognize
its amazing partnership with the State of Georgia that safeguards the
public.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to CSX Transportation.
